Dr. Cerberus

Dr. Cerberus as presented by L.A. Theatre Works is a great listen! It's a coming-of-age story about a 13 year old gay boy, Franklyn, going through the pains of adolescence. He's misunderstood by everyone who know him except his Uncle. He finds great pleasure in watching Saturday Night Horror Movies, hosted by Dr. Cerberus. Simon Helberg makes a great Franklyn who is a great character and is extremely likable. His family and the rest of the cast are all wonderfully cast. This play is very funny at first, but has true heart near the end that you can't get out of your mind. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a great laugh.

About the Author
Dr Kery is a Population Ecologist with the Swiss Ornithological Institute and a courtesy professor ("Privatdozent") at the University of Zürich/Switzerland, from where he received his PhD in Ecology in 2000. He is an expert in the estimation and modeling of abundance, distribution and species richness in "metapopulation designs" (i.e., collections of replicate sites). For most of his work, he uses the Bayesian model fitting software BUGS and JAGS, about which he has published two books with Academic Press (2010 and 2012). He has authored/coauthored 70 peer-reviewed articles and four book chapters. Since 2007, and for a total of 103 days, he has taught 23 statistical modeling workshops about the methods in the proposed book at research institutes and universities all over the world.

Dr Royle is currently a Research Statistician at the U.S. Geological Survey's Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. His research is focused on the application of probability and statistics to ecological problems, especially those related to animal sampling and demographic modeling. Much of his research over the last 10 years has been devoted to the development of methods illustrated in our new book. He has authored or coauthored more than 100 journal articles, and co-authored the books Spatial Capture Recapture, Hierarchical Modeling and Inference in Ecology and Occupancy Estimation and Modeling: Inferring Patterns and Dynamics of Species Occurrence, all published by Academic Press.

Reasonable Intro to the more dense official User Manual

I bought this book when I bought Ableon Live 8 Suite, and I had never used the software before. I read a lot of technical texts -- mostly software / computer texts, and I am just now getting into DAW stuff for fun. The book is more like a slimmed down version of the very large official Ableton User Manual PDF. It is more readable, and more narrative than the PDF, but not really by all that much.

It follows a particular style for technical texts that I don't care for much, which is to have chapters that just describe each function/feature of the software in a linear fashion. It doesn't promote learning all that well, b/c you tend to get bored just reading about feature after feature without being more interactive. It has available some live sets that you can download and there are a few areas in the book where it prompts you to try things, but not many.

By comparison, I also have the book Reason 4 Ignite by Matt Piper (also Cengage Learning), and it takes a completely different approach. Each chapter in that book has you start with blank instrument and work through a short lesson. This style I found much more engaging, and I learn the software so much faster.

With the Ableton Power book, I feel like I've learned enough about the software now by playing with it, that the book doesn't really provide much of a reference for me anymore, as I'll probably just go straight to the PDF User Manual. Your mileage may vary.

you are better off taking online courses this book is very confusing if you have never used ableton live seek professional guidance before cracking this book open otherwise you will end up way in over your head! this is a good reference book for technicalities, other than that not much helpful

Ableton Live Power from My Perspective

The book tends to go feature by feature with a lot of "yea for Ableton" filler in-between. For me it would be less of a grind if there were a narrative that introduced the features as part of typical task done in a recording session. I give it 3 stars relative to the piles of other tech books that I've read. Also, the book is very geared to Ableton as a music performance tool rather than an environment in which to record. This I guess is fair but not what I want out of it.

Easy to read and comprehend for student.

Nice edition to Everyday Life Skills textbook if you can get it. Good for reinforcing concepts. I enjoyed the layout and learning lessons of this book. Easy to read and comprehend. I used the textbook and thought that was enough, and used this workbook very little, however that was just my preference. This was used for homeschool Life Skills course for 11th grade. Cost was inexpensive compared to other publishers books.
