Nice but nothing new

As much as I like the author's "Building Construction", this book is not recommended. It is based on the premise that many construction details share common principles: shed water by using sloping surfaces, for instance. After a few such groupings are described, it turns into a tips and tricks collection, e.g., do rough work before finish work. It's not a comprehensive reference by any means. On the contrary, it's shamefully padded with many nearly blank pages. Enjoyable reading, nice drawings, just not nearly enough material to justify the price.

Concise and to the point!

This book is the recipe to designing architectural details. The book is divided into many small but concise sections each dealing with different aspects e.g, controlling water leakage, accommodating movements, providing structural support, forgiving details, etc. In each of these sections various solutions and stategies to deal with these aspects are shown with simple easy to understand diagrams accompanied by a brief explanation. A chapter at the end is dedicated to developing and designing the architectural details through choosing and combining solutions disscussed in the sections with illustrated examples.
This book is the essence to "designing" or merely to "understanding" architectural details. The structure and simplicity of this book makes it almost like a dictionary of architectural details. This book is suitable for students, practicing architects, and those who are interested in the detailing of architecture. Note: in my opinion this book is of a reference nature and not recommended for leisure reading.

Brilliant and indispensible

This book is the thinking person's "Graphic Standards" (no slight to that book intended). But in this case, instead of handing you details, it teaches you how to design your own details. It is not only a one-of-a-kind approach but incredibly well-done, well organized, and beautifully illustrated as well. It is a guide to knowing why details should be designed in particular ways. It explains, in depth, what to think about when designing at the level of the detail. And the three case studies in the back of the book are worth their weight in gold. This book truly makes the point that detailing is part of the process of design. Get it, and keep it.

Still a lot of info for a primer: very specialized avalanche knowledge

I got Tremper's full text, "Staying Alive in avalanche terrain", as well as this condensed version, and the more concise "Snow Sense" by Fredston/Fesler. Among these texts from what seem to be the top experts in the field of avalanche knowledge, I would consider this the advanced level book, with "Staying Alive" the most comprehensive and specialized, and "Snow Sense" the best general introduction on best practices in avalanche terrain for the average outdoor enthusiast.

Fantastic book comparable to level 1 course

This book is the perfect book for someone to get with no prior formal avalanche training. I had already had level 1 certification and got this book to push my knowledge towards a level 2 ability by being able to back up CAIC reports with real on the fly touring data for improved decision making, but this book is not quite at that level. I would HIGHLY recommend this book for someone seeking initial avalanche knowledge and am very pleased with the pictures and the analysis of route choices in this book! Definitely something that should be on a back country skiers shelf!

This seems to be an updating field version of Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain. There is new info about the human factor and using preset rituals to avoid common mistakes in avy terrain. There is still a lot of good insight in here, but overall, a lot of the book is recycled from his previous work.

Book is ok. The book title & tag line are misleading

The book title & cover are pretty misleading. This book main focus of the book seems to be them promoting their virtual Assistant business. They go over how they built their business, month by month, but the business is only 1 year old. They refer to times as 'the early days', but the business really still is in its early days.

They discuss how to they use tools like Slack, Trello, and Chargify to 'Optimize, Automate, and Outsource' some parts of their business (and say that they coach clients to do the same thing), but don't go into a lot of specific detail on how other companies can do the same thing (they offer consulting services to tell you those details).

I guess at the current price of $2.99, it was worth that price (as it's interesting to read the process of their 1st year in business), but the book (especially the first 3rd or so of it) largely reads as a sales pamphlet for their business. If you're looking to learn 'How to optimize, automate, & outsource everything in your business' (as the book cover states), you'll likely want to look elsewhere. One of the authors, Ari Meisel, has another book that sounds like it's actually more about that than this book is.

Meh, I don't why but I was expecting a bit more than a 10,000 ft overview. It read like a long form sales letter. Some takeaways but there are better books on doing more with less.

About the Author
Darlene Walton has been actively performing music since her first solo at the age of three. Since then, music has been a big part of her life. She studied piano for twelve years, violin and organ for six years, and some guitar thrown in to spice things up. At the age of sixteen she started her church musician career, and has played either piano or organ almost every week since. Darlene has been a piano teacher and choir director for many years, and in 2001 she added harp teacher to her resume. As part of a gospel group called “Shine”, Darlene helped produce and write and album with all original music and lyrics, which the group performed at many venues. More recently Darlene had made two solo harp CDs. The Harp and the Rising Sun contains popular tunes and some Celtic music. Her second CD, Quiet Praise, features solo harp versions of gospel favorites. Darlene was also featured in a Sentimental Reflections DVD. At present, Darlene works as the Showroom Manager for Rees Harps Incorporated. She stays busy composing music and rehearsing with her eighteen-piece Harpsicle® Harp choir. She has performed two times at the state of Indiana Inaugurations for Governor Mitch Daniels, and plays at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care unit and in the Dialysis unit at a large Cincinnati hospital. She also plays for weddings, dinners, funerals, art shows, festivals and many other venues. Darlene loves teaching both private and group harp lessons and piano lessons. Taking stress out of learning to play an instrument is Darlene’s greatest gift to her students. For Darlene Walton the harp has been a major blessing in her life. She says it’s a lot more fun than piano and she wishes she had started playing it back in fifth grade when she first fell in love with the harp’s beautiful mellow tones.

CLASSICS book is just was I was looking for!!

Darlene Walton's Classics book has Great Songs and a wide variety!
The arrangements are interesting, and not boring!
I especially like NOT having to flip levers on my harp!
The chord changes above the staff are very helpful!

Great beginner to intermediate repertoir

The selections in this book are simple to read and easy to play. They also include the chord letters above the staff to make improvisation easier. It is possible to play all of these songs without flipping a lever on a harp with only 26 strings. I don't think the fingerings in the book are always the best, but other than that, it is perfect!

This is going to be one of my more valuable books as I try to learn to play the Harp. I thought I was ready to learn GREENSLEEVES, but I had to give up - - it is just too difficult to make my left hand work the way it shows on the sheet music. Later...
