Definitely worth the read

I have always loved basically any kind of books that have a Greek mythological influence, and so over the years I must have read dozens by now – but I’d have to say that Erin Kinsella’s “Olympian Confessions” would certainly be in my top 3, and that’s saying a lot considering I, admittedly, can be quite critical toward the genre sometimes. I am always afraid of giving away spoilers in reviews, but I will end this saying that the book is a must-read for anyone looking for an Olympian tale that is expressed through a vivid, visually-rich writing style that compliments the complex structure of the plot perfect.

Fun and Insightful Spin on Greek Mythology

As interesting as Greek Mythology can be with all of its various and detailed characters and the roles they played, there is something that the historical context lacks, and that’s personality.

Olympian Confessions brims over with the charisma and temperaments that you would expect from the gods who mythically walked the earth while we were but an audience to their glorious and thundering interactions. This book let’s you feel like a part of the mythology as an emotional and detailed tale unfolds that immerses you in colossal settings from Mt. Olympus to Hades.

A compelling new take on Hades and Persephone love story!

This is a like a breath of fresh air! A love how the author develop a plot of Greek mythology in an entirely different level. It’s nice to see Hades as a protagonist instead of the usual “bad” God among his fellow Olympians. The character building is remarkable. Each character including minor ones were given the right introduction, that even if you don’t know much about Greek mythology, you’ll still be able to understand the story. This is not just a love story; it has heart-pumping action and unexpected twists that will surely keep you glued to your seats. Highly recommended!

About the Author

James M. Van Verth is a software engineer at Google, where he works on GPU support for the Skia 2D Graphics Library. He has worked for Insomniac Games, NVIDIA, and Red Storm Entertainment and, for the past 17 years, he has been a regular speaker at GDC, teaching the tutorials "Math for Game Programmers" and "Physics for Game Programmers." He received a BA in math/computer science from Dartmouth College, an MS in computer science from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an MS in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Lars M. Bishop is an engineer in the Handheld Developer Technologies group at NVIDIA. Prior to joining NVIDIA, he was the chief technology officer at Numerical Design Limited, leading the development of the Gamebryo3D cross-platform game engine. He received a BS in math/computer science from Brown University and an MS in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Easy Getting Started Guide to the 16 MBTI Personality Types

I have read a great number of books on the 16 MBTI personality types, and I have investigated scores of websites to really find out all I can about understanding people and their personalities. This book, by far, is the easiest guide to the MBTI. I highly recommend it both to people new to MBTI, and to those who have a fairly good understanding of the 16 types.
This book is simple and easy to understand, and has some really great real-world examples that are wonderful. The "How To Speak" sections are fun and make perfect sense.
Other books on the MBTI are really complicated and seem to require a Master's degree in psychology in order to really get the most out of them.
This book will help you understand the people in your life, and make you realize that everyone is different, and that everyone sees things from a different perspective. But that isn't the best part... it tells you HOW they see things and HOW best to interact with them.

Very Insightful For Understanding How People Communicate

I have used MBTI at work and found it to be useful. I came across this book when I was looking for something to add to the basic knowledge that I had. Don't worry though, the first two chapters go over the basics. If you are not familiar with MBTI, this will get you started. If you are familiar with it, it serves as a good review.

Then the heart of the book takes you through three tools for identifying peoples preferences: type preference as a whole, temperament, and extraverted/introverted feeling. After putting all of these together, the authors present you with some case studies where you use the various techniques to try to identify the types of the people involved. They are simple but useful.

The book closes with some detailed advice for interacting with the four different temperaments in general and then specifically the four individual type preferences within a given temperaments.

The final chapter is titled "How Will I Ever Look at People the Same Way Again?" Truthfully, you won't. You will notice things about people, and hopefully these things will help you improve your interactions with the people you come in contact with.

"Art"? Maybe as in fingerpainting. Aw that's harsh.

I generally like Meyers-Briggs personality books. The test is pretty acurate as far as standardized personality tests go. It's pretty flexible and encompassing and if you haven't taken it you should. You'll learn something about yourself.

That said, I don't think this book was the best example of what one can achieve using knowledge of Meyers-Briggs. The speed reading is not very revealing. The tips they give are things anyone with familiarity with the system could figure out on their own. In the beginning of the book one of the authors talks about the time she had to give a presentation to someone and she observed that he was a meticulous fellow and then used her amazing people reading skills to determine that he might be very detail oriented, so she crafted her presentation with that in mind. Really? A meticulous person might be detail oriented? Well madame how DO you DO it? It's not bad information but it's stuff you don't need if you have any of the other Meyers-Briggs books and a bit of intellectual horsepower. If you've never been introduced to these personality tests I guess this is an ok introduction, but eventually you'll want to move on to something a bit more meaty, like "Please Understand Me", or "Gifts Differing". There is a little new material here but it's sort of a re-heated version of the previous two books I just mentioned. Sure some of it is useful stuff, I just think there are better books out there. But that's just my opinion. It is worth a look, maybe check it out from the library first and see what you think.

My choice of PfMP Exam Prep...

In preparation for taking the PfMP exam I tried pretty much everything out there regarding books, tools, etc... and found this one to be the one I used the most. My total prep time for this exam was only around 2-3 weeks - the combination of the online mock tests, material included in the book itself, and additional memory aides were a big factor in preparation for this exam(and passing) in the short time I had allotted. If I could only buy one, I would buy this one...

the book provided some useful consulting frameworks that made portfolio management easier to understand

I started reviewing this book and I agree with most the reviews, both positive and negative. On the positive, the book is well organized with a heavy emphasis on exam preparation and strategy. On the content for the knowledge area, I thought the overview of portfolio management and the unique perspective of the author is refreshing. He simplified a complex discipline into a set of important questions for each of the knowledge areas. This was especially helpful for me as I did not necessarily have experiences in all the domain areas. The key questions were innovative and helpful. Also, the book provided some useful consulting frameworks that made portfolio management easier to understand.

I also agree with some of them the negative comments, but I thought the one star was too critical as most were a matter of preference. Specifically, I thought it was convenient to repeat the question in the answer key, so I did not have to flip back and forth. The explanation in the answer key was suitable since that's the main book anyway (and the author said that much in the intro and on the back cover). There were many graphs and tables, but it's a b/w book (wonder if its color on Kindle). The materials was quite boring and dry, but that's the nature of the topic. I think the biggest negative in the book is a lack of alignment with the ECO. (I emailed the author and Wu mentioned that the ECO is used in their bootcamp and the changes may make it to the book. I also learned that they just receive PMI's REP certification. I may join their bootcamp.)

Most importantly, as I compare this book with the others, it is comparably less expensive with considerably more content and frameworks and practice questions. I hope the author will make improvements based on some of the suggestions here, but I also think it's the best on the market and it deserves 5 stars for using an innovative format.

encouraging

The author has done a very good job in pointing out that the Law Of Attraction is not in contradiction with the bible and as a matter fact, the bible is full of examples of it. The author also doing a very good job with verses in the bible (OT & NT) in order to illustrate what need to be done in order to activate the LOA and thus, giving the much desired results. While I agree completely with the author concerning the principles of LOA, I do, however, want to point out that the author is missing one key ingredient and that is TAKING ACTION.Yes, you do need to ask by getting clear about what is you really want and yes, you do need to have some degree of faith (that is by taking the feeling of wish fulfilled) but you also need to follow it through by taking inspired action. Now, I don't want to be preachy, but that is what seems to be missing from most of LOA books. "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." (james 2:17 NIV). Overall, this is a very good book. It's concise and straight to the point. For those who new to LOA, I recommend it as your reference.

The Bible and The Law of Attraction

This is a GREAT BOOK!!! For those who have strong religious and/or spiritual beliefs like I do, this is a book that is easy to read and clearly shows that the Law of Attraction was actually being practiced, and taught for thousands of years. Here is what dawned on me when I read the book. It is not referred to as the Law of Attracton in the Bible, that is a more modern terminology. However, all of the principles of the Law of Attraction were definitely being taught and used. After reading this GREAT BOOK, I read another GREAT BOOK "Jesus Taught It Too, the Early Roots of the Law of Attraction." Between these 2 books, as a former licensed member of the clergy who was called to another path in the service of the Lord, it left zero doubt in my mind that the Law of Attraction is both real and was actually instructed by the Lord himself, although he never called it the Law of Attraction. These were the two books that started me on an inquenchable thirst for as much information as I can find on how to make the Law of Attraction work for us instead of against us; because, as I have discovered, the Law of Attraction is always working regardless of our acceptance of it or our denial. For those who have strong religious or spiritual tendencies, especially, I have to say that this book is a MUST READ. Enough Said.

Enlightening Read

Mr. Alon offers clarity regarding the Law of Attraction. It's a great book and I highly recommend it to readers who want the answers to what it really takes to manifest abundance in their lives. I hope we will be hearing more from this author, he is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and has a lot to offer.
Make the Law of Attraction work for you and read this wonderful book.
