You need this in your museum with your table of five-place logarithms that you use for ray tracing. No fair using zemax, code 5, or even Microsoft excel or a pocket calculator. Trace one ray through two surfaces (a cassagrain telescope), and you will appreciate our modern technology and be amazed that Zeiss developed the superb four element tessar lens with nothing more than log trig tables, pencil, paper, and possibly an abacus. Its main value is as an artifact of ancient pre-computer technology.

Too theoretical for mr.

There are too many mathematical details to suit me. I want to understand the pluses and minuses of various astronomical telescopes, but I don't want all the math behind why. This book is meant for someone who wants to design telescopes and other optics. I just want to look through them.
