Orthodox Catholicism

This book is very well written and is easy to follow. Complex Theological arguments are explained simply complete with examples that anyone can relate to. This is however a very Orthodox "Catholic Faith Explained". If one is of a modern "liberation theology" bent, then this book is not for you.
For Catholics who are looking for a strong standing in the faith which is consistent with traditional Church teaching, then this book will be an excellent read. But it is easy to see how some people will base their opinion of a book like this dependent on whether or not they agree with it. For example, use of contraception is blatantly called a sin, homosexuality is not tolerated by the author either, and there is certainly no debate on Women Priests.
Branches of the Church like Opus Dei would approve of this book, while more liberal thinkers in the Church would condemn it as outdated and "un - pastoral". This is a book that will confirm Church teaching, which means that the reader may be left feeling very uncomfortable or upset. However, The Faith Explained does not say anything 'new', everything in this book can be found in the Catechism, Papal Encyclicals and in Scripture.
Regardless of your Theological position, this book is very well written and easy to read. Whether or not you will enjoy it totally depends on what you already believe about the Faith.

Excellent overview of the faith

This is an excellent and thorough overview of the Catholic faith. It explains tough topics through easily grasped metaphors. This would make a great read for this year of faith, or somebody preparing for confirmation.

This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to deepen the understanding of the Catholic Faith. I am currently a student at Catholic Distance University and this is a required text. Worth it's weight in Gold.
